The UK music industry has openly expressed its support against online music piracy, and they have now come up with a unique approach to try and bring an end to the problem. Many concerned musicians have voted in favour of the ‘three-strikes’ approach. They have also decided to follow the recommendations included in the Government’s Digital Report.The group includes around 100 artists, along with a lobby group of the Featured Artists Coalition. The group have requested that the internet connections of habitual offenders is slowed down. This decision would bring an end to the ongoing debate between the FAC and British artistes.The group agreed that incorporating a three-strike feature would bring an end to online piracy. Three warning letters would be served to habitual offenders, with the degree of seriousness increasing with each letter. The final letter would be in the form of a sanction, which would inform the offender that their internet speed would be significantly decrease, thus preventing them from participating in any file sharing activities.Once the problem of illegal file sharing is under control, the British music industry will focus their efforts on eliminating unauthorised CD duplication.
